  1. What is Elcano? [Answer]

Elcano is an online portal used by our clients to submit and track projects, collaborate with their project teams, and manage linguistic assets. This portal connects you with the Lionbridge global team of language experts, and is complimentary to clients as part of the Lionbridge service offering.

  2. How do I register for a Corporate Elcano account? [Answer]

On elcano.lionbridge.com, click on the link to request a corporate account under "New Users" section. A form will appear. Complete this form and submit it. Once you have submitted, one of our customer services representatives will contact you.

  3. How do I get an instant quote? [Answer]

An instant quote is an estimate provided on the basis of your supplied word count and target languages. You can create an instant quote as part of the project submission process. Final quotes and costs are based upon our receipt and review of source materials.

  4. Does Elcano also support larger files? [Answer]

Yes! You can submit files of all sizes, i.e. containing larger word volumes, through Elcano. You can use Winzip to zip larger files. If you are having difficulty uploading the file, i.e. if its size exceeds the standard size for mail transfer, contact us at elcano_support@lionbridge.com

  5. When I submit a document for translation and enter text in the Special Instructions box, when I type longer instructions, I receive an error message. Why is this? [Answer]

This field has a limitation of 255 characters. If the text entered exceeds this, the changes are not saved.

  6. Multiple languages: If I wish to have one document translated into several languages, do I submit each language pair separately? [Answer]

No, this is not necessary. Simply hold down the <CTRL> key to select multiple languages.

  7. MAC Users: I am a Macintosh user and when I try to select several target languages with the use of CTRL key, it doesn't work. What should I do? [Answer]

To select multiple languages on the MAC, do not use CTRL but (of course!:-)) the hash - four loops - (or Apple) key - to the left and right of the spacebar. It is also recommended to binhex files before submitting them from a Macintosh to preserve the file format.

  8. I am a Corporate User of Elcano. I would like to have the option of credit card payment as well as monthly invoicing, is this possible? [Answer]

Yes! Mail elcano_support@lionbridge.com or ask your Lionbridge project manager to enable this feature.

  9. Does Elcano support proofreading of texts not submitted via Elcano? [Answer]

As a general rule, no. Elcano only deals with proofing of documents that have also been translated by Elcano translators. But if you require proofreading of another text, simply contact us at elcano_support@lionbridge.com to discuss.

  10. The system will not accept my username or password. Why is this [Answer]

First-time users of Elcano do not have a username and password. These are issued only when a Corporate account has been set up. If you wish to become a corporate user of Elcano, please contact elcano_support@lionbridge.com or complete the form available when you click the link under 'Become a Corporate Customer' on the Elcano homepage.

  11. I am a Corporate user of Elcano and my required language combination is not available in the dropdown box when I log in. Why is this? [Answer]

When a Corporate account is set up by a Lionbridge Account Manager, a customer-specific list of languages is added. If you require additional languages, either contact the Account Manager or representative responsible for your account or mail elcano_support@lionbridge.com

  12. I inserted my mail address in the 'Copy mail address' for the jobs I submitted but have not been copied on any of the e-mails sent. [Answer]

The mail address that has been included in the 'cc mail address' field will only receive the final delivery of the translated file(s), not any of other system-generated mails, such as, for example, confirmation of job submitted etc.

  13. I frequently use the same list of target languages to submit my jobs, but have to select the individual languages every time. Is there a way to set up a list of "favorite" languages? [Answer]

Yes! Once logged in to Elcano, go to the "Setup" menu, and you will be able to create one or more lists of "preferred languages".
